Newtonia Lending Library

One computer workstation is operational and has access to the internet via Excede.
The computer is also set up with our library software.  You can search for a book by author, title, category and keyword.  Once you find a book you would like to check out the library location is indicated on the program.  Or you can still walk around and look until you find a book to read!

If you haven't been here in the last month Steve has added two new eight foot tall bookcases, which we have already filled with books!  More seating was also recently added.

Library Card Sign UP is open to all Newtonia and Newton County Residents.

A Note About the Library Books

This is just a place holder.

We originally planned to have a book drive for the library. But as individuals have heard about the library, books have been continually donated.  Pretty unique, we have over 6000 books or as we like to call them VOLUNTEER BOOKS!

We now have a wide variety of books, thanks to all of our book donors.  About half of the books are from our friends in Oklahoma with the remainder donated locally in Missouri.
We'd like to especially thank our friends at Tulsa County Administrative Services for the large volume and wide variety of books they have donated.
Thanks also to the Fairview Community Library, the Read Again Book Store in Granby, Missing Pieces Vintage Market in Neosho, Verla's Re-Sale in Neosho, and the employees of Alliance Coal in Tulsa, OK  for their donations of books.
Last but not least we'd like to thank all of the individuals who have donated so many of the books from their personal libraries.  We will be putting a complete listing up in the library soon.  Thanks again!

" The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read."

"The more that you read, the more things you will know.  The more you learn, the more places you'll go."                            -  Dr. Suess

Newtonia Lending Library will have no late fees. We will trust you to return a library book in a timely manner when you have finished reading it.

Saturday, July 27th, we toured the Ritchey Mansion and returned to the library for an Ice Cream Party and presented trophies to the readers that completed the "Hit A Homerun Summer Reading Program".  Fifteen

readers signed up and 11 of those hit a homerun!  Six hit one homerun, two made two homeruns and three made three homeruns.  To hit a homerun four books (one for every base) had to be read and one of those had to be non-fiction.  Congratulations, great job summer readers!

Saturday June 22nd,  working in the Volunteer Garden.

As we planted flowers we looked for treasures and found quite a few.  Their treasures will be put into the future museum!  They are pictured holding their favorite finds and tools.  Yes, the water hose was a tool!

Saturday, June 8th at 11:00 am
We will begin with a tea party luncheon, then read a book and make a craft.

April 27, 2013 was our first Read a Book at the Library Day!

The book and craft for the day was provided by Mary C.  The book "Curious George Visits the Library" was read by Bessie.  The craft was writing and illustrating your own book.

When the books were finished some of our young authors read their books to everyone.  Popcorn and juice was served, thanks to everyone who helped!

Saturday, May 25th, at "Read a Book" day, the book was "Curious George Goes to a Costume Party".  We made mask and had cookies and lemonade.  Thanks Mary C. for providing the book and crafts again!
